LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!! So captivating with beautiful pictures and artistry. Draws the reader in and gives them a true appreciation of the history along the “First Coast” area of Florida. I have visitors come to my house, pick the book up to just glance at it, and they can’t put it down. They just ohh and ahh over it. One visitor picked it up and exclaimed how they don’t like history, and they read it cover to cover and proceeded to ask where they could get a copy. I will be giving this book as gifts this upcoming holiday season.

At Home in History

Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2015

Mary Atwood and Bill Weeks’ wonderful book captures the history of the area beautifully. Mary’s photos are haunting …it appears that someone may appear in a room or at the door any moment from somewhere in time…Prince Murat may pick up his pen to write, someone will enter a room and finish their reading or sewing, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings may pick up her tea cup ( or whiskey), the owner of the top hat on the hall tree in the Merrill House has just walked down the hall and will be back momentarily…the reader is engaged in the historical information and feels like stepping into the photos for a visit. As a Florida native it is fun to feel invited into the lives of past residents and feel at home.
